Professional Highlights: I spent most of my professional career working in marketing, advertising and market research. I have worked with a non-profit downtown association, a national marketing company and a vibrant local advertising agency. My second act has been serving our community: I serve on the Johnson City Board of Education and am involved with education on the local and state level. I am very involved with the Johnson City Public Library. I serve on several other boards and committees, mostly focused on education and preparing students for life after graduation.
I am passionate about education and literacy, and enthusiastically do story-times for several hundred pre school and kindergarten students every week, which makes me kind of a rock star with the 6 and under crowd.
Personal Interests: I relax by cooking, reading, listening to audiobooks, traveling, growing hostas and hanging out with Duke, my husband of 28 years. I energize by reading to kids, daily workouts, volunteering, challenging myself with new and different opportunities and trying to keep up intellectually with our son Hunter who lives in Richmond, VA and works as a copywriter.
International Travel Experience: My first real passport worthy travel was our honeymoon to Vietnam and Saipan, a very interesting trip! I have also traveled to Switzerland, Italy, Ireland, England and Scotland as well as British Columbia. New Zealand is on my bucket list, as is a river cruise in Europe.
Noteworthy Travel Experiences within the U.S.: I have been to almost every state and enjoy traveling with my family. Growing up in the Midwest, seeing an ocean was a special and rare event so I love spending time at the beach. We did an extended Grand Canyon trip and traveled around that area. Seeing the west coast is also fun; one of my favorite trips ever was traveling Hwy 1 from San Francisco to San Diego. I look forward to more driving trips in the US, and Duke and I have been scouting out some National Parks that we’d like to see. We are planning a trip to Hawaii this year.
