WHY INVEST IN THE ROAN?

Roan Scholars are leaders--on campus and after graduation.

While at ETSU, Scholars lead in student government, clubs and organizations, athletics, student ambassador programs, and more. They also lead through service, as student representatives on advisory boards and participation in other volunteer initiatives. They are regularly recognized by their peers, faculty and the university.

Roan Alumni go on to lead with excellence in many fields. From a U.S. Navy Seal to local educators, business owners to doctors, government officials to attorneys, our Alumni are making an impact throughout our region and around the world.

Your investment empowers Scholars to lead. Here are some stories of how.

what the roan means to me

"I'm a first-generation college student, so I'll be honest, I don't know if I would have been able to go to college if it weren't for the Roan. The Roan literally is the access to my goals and dreams. It has also pushed me to do all the things I have been able to accomplish so far. And when I think back to the decision Mr. Gump made years ago to start this program, it reminds me how significant a single decision can be in the lives of so many people. His decision to start the Roan has impacted so many past and future Roan Scholars in ways we may never know."

making an impact

Keely’s passion is helping teach people the importance of empowerment. She joined Eastman after graduating from ETSU and has held several marketing and commercial roles. Now, she is Director of Corporate Strategy and serves on the company’s Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee. She mentors many people who are early in their careers, helping them create networks, build skill sets and develop confidence to drive personal empowerment. As a leader of the Catalysts Employee Resource Group at Eastman, she focuses on promoting members of diverse backgrounds, fostering networks of working parents, and relaying critical needs to company’s management. But most of all, in her mentorship, she seeks to enable people to speak up and share their new ideas and opinions: “I want people to be bold, to take risks, and to have the confidence that they are capable. We can’t create the change we need if we have a lot of head nodding around the table.”

WE NEED YOU

Your investment helps us offer more scholarships and expand the capacity of the Roan to develop and inspire leaders.

Today, Roan Alumni and friends of the Roan continue to offer their support for the vision first outlined by our founder, Mr. Louis H. Gump, more than 20 years ago. As we look to expand and grow the Roan, further enhance the Roan Experience for our Scholars, and increase our capacity for positive impact, there is both a need and a tremendous opportunity for increased support. We invite you to invest in the future by investing in the Roan.
