Dr. Brian Noland
Professional Highlights:
Dr. Brian Noland has served as the ninth president of East Tennessee State University since January 2012. Under his leadership, ETSU has reached record-setting graduation, retention, and employee satisfaction rates, while also securing the highest levels of research funding in its history. He has overseen several of ETSU’s most transformative capital projects, including major renovations to the D.P. Culp Student Center, Brown Hall, and Lamb Hall, and the construction of Greene Stadium, the Martin Center for the Arts, and new health and academic facilities. President Noland has guided major expansions in ETSU’s health research and service initiatives, leading the launch of several centers focused on rural health, addiction science, women’s health, cardiovascular risk, and childhood trauma. He also led the creation of the BlueSky Institute in partnership with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and launched “Go Beyond the Classroom” to expand experiential learning. He serves on the boards of the American Council on Education, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the NCAA Division I Board of Directors, Ballad Health, and Bank of Tennessee.
Personal Interests:
Married with one son. Enjoys reading, history, and spending time outdoors in the mountains of East Tennessee.
International Travel Experience:
Has represented ETSU and higher education leaders in international education conferences and partnership development, including travels throughout Europe and Asia.
Noteworthy Travel Experiences within the U.S.:
Avid supporter of regional exploration, with memorable experiences including university-related outreach across Appalachia and attending the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City to support the ETSU Marching Band’s national debut.
