Frequently Asked Questions -
Roan Applicants
Q. Do I need to save this email?
A. Yes! You’ll need the link above to return to your application. Please carefully review the instructions at the top of your Student Application. One tip from past applicants: draft your responses offline, then copy and paste them into the application - rather than working online the entire time (the portal will time out after a period of inactivity; any unsaved work may be lost).
Q. When is this year’s Roan application deadline?
A. This year’s deadline is 11:59:59 pm (Eastern) on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. All four parts of your file (see below) must be submitted as ‘complete’ by this date to be considered for the Roan Class of 2030.
You must also submit your application for admission to ETSU by October 15. To start that process, visit this link.
Q. What are the components of a complete Roan application file?
A. Your file has four parts: (1) Student Application – you submit; (2) Leadership Evaluation – you need to identify this person and ensure they submit; (3) Reference – you need to identify a second person (cannot be the same as your leadership evaluator) and ensure they submit; (4) Academic Data – you’ll need to coordinate with your school counselor to ensure your transcript and SAT / ACT test score report are sent to ETSU’s Admissions Office (we’ll receive from Admissions).
You can view the status of each of these components (Complete or Incomplete) at any time from within your Student Application.
Q. What happens after the deadline?
A. We will forward completed files to a team of file readers, who will help us determine which applicants will advance to our initial round of interviews. You will be notified in mid-November regarding your status; if you are selected for a regional interview, those will occur via Zoom on weekdays during December 1-12, 2025. Following those initial interviews, students who are selected as finalists will be invited to participate in Roan Finalist Days, which are scheduled for late-January 2026.
Q. What else do I need to know?
A. The Roan provides four years of unique, out-of-the-classroom experiences designed to empower, challenge, and inspire you - to help you grow and develop your potential for leadership excellence and impact. Our scholarship also includes a significant financial award, funding your college experience and allowing you to graduate debt-free. Again, check out our website and social media sites to learn more.
