Dr. Jennifer Axsom Adler was named the Roan’s first Assistant Director in August 2015. A first-generation college student originally from Bloomington, Indiana, Jennifer graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard College with her A.B. in Government. She went on to earn her M.A. and Ph.D. in Religion from Vanderbilt University, with a focus on American religious history. At Vanderbilt, she had extensive experience with student development, including teaching, serving as a graduate writing consultant, leading workshops on academic skills, and working in several roles with Vanderbilt’s Programs for Talented Youth.
As Assistant Director of the Roan Program, Jennifer oversees programming, leadership development, and enrichment opportunities for Roan Scholars. Her training in the study of religion informs her approach to leadership, including the importance of purpose, passion, integrity, ethics, and wellbeing. She has spoken at national, regional, and community events on topics including leadership, student success, American religious history, and religious diversity.
Jennifer lives in Kingsport with her husband, Warren, and their son, Pierce (6). She is currently the youngest member of that city’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen, elected to a four-year term in May 2017.
